Andrew graduated with a Bachelors degree in physics from Princeton in 1977, and took a design engineering position in the Bipolar Memory Division of Fairchild Semiconductor in Mountain View, CA until 1981. Fairchild was exciting because it had the fastest memory and general integrated circuit technology at the time.

Andrew was at the University of Texas from 1981 to 1989. He earned a Ph.D. in Physics in 1988, and his dissertation work [http://scholar.google.com/scholar?as_q=information&num=10&btnG=Search+Scholar&as_epq=&as_oq=&as_eq=&as_occt=any&as_sauthors=%22am+fraser%22&as_publication=&as_ylo=1986&as_yhi=1989&as_sdt=1.&as_sdtp=on&as_sdtf=&as_sdts=32&hl=en] is widely cited.

Andrew moved to Los Alamos New Mexico in 2005 to take a position at the National Laboratory after having spent the years 1989 to 2005 on the faculty of Portland State University [http://pdx.edu] in the both the department of Electrical Engineering and the Systems Science Program. In 1988, SIAM published his first book, ''Hidden Markov Models and Dynamical Systems'' [http://www.ec-securehost.com/SIAM/OT107.html].

To guests who visit New Mexico, Andrew and Marguerite recommend a variety of [[local activities]].
